Company Profile
ARE was established in
early1998 by Richard & Val Anderson as a secondary business to supplement
their income from their then present business of 20 years, Brisbane Radiator
Service. The widespread & still increasing use of aluminium cores in cars &
light trucks, meant a slow down in work turnover, because, if a cooling
system with an aluminium core is properly maintained, it will outlast at
least two copper/brass radiators. As of the start of 2000, 98% of cars &
light commercials registered in Australia, has an aluminium core/plastic
tank radiator !
We have purchased the very
best equipment and always strive to supply the very best product for the
intended purpose. I have always been driven by pride, so please take
the time to look through the quality and performance of our workmanship and
compare to what you may purchase elsewhere.

I have
been involved and interested in cars and the automotive industry for as long
as I can remember. I've owned several streeters over the years,
including two heavily modified GT Falcon's, a Lotus Cortina and a LC GTR
Torana. I moved into 4WD for a while, returning to performance cars
with a XR6 Falcon in '94. I currently drive a Skyline R33 GTST,
my wife drives, and my daughter a 1987 Ford Telstar TX5 Turbo. There's
also a Datto Ute with a CA18DET engine sitting in it just waiting to be
finished....

I started racing go-karts at 15, car club gymkhana's at 16, circuit racing
cars at 18, power boat racing at 24, drag racing at 28 & from 31 on, a bad
back forcing me to race radio control boats for 10yrs., switching
to r/c circuit cars & finally r/c drag cars. Over these years I came 2nd.
outright in my Improved Production EH Holden at a T. T. meeting at Amaroo
Park in 1969. 2nd. outright in my XU1 Torana at the Lakeside round of the Australian Touring Car
Championships in 1973, 3 State Unlimited Displacement boat titles in 1974 –
7, 16 AMPBA model boat records & some state & national titles, & numerous
QMDRA 1/10 scale drag records – best being current rail ET & TS of 2.017
secs. @ 71.85 mph (115.7 kph)
for the 44 yard strip. However, my real highlight & pride, was Drag Racing
in 1977, when I installed my 454 big block chev into Trevor Hawthorne’s chop
top Torana & we set 3 ANDRA A/Gas speed records, pushing it from 136 mph to
150.92mph which took 9 years to be broken. We also won a Gold Christmas Tree
in Completion Eliminator at the 1978 ADR’s at Castlereigh.
No excuses here, if you can make the power you'll run the MPH !
All the above was achieved through my own mechanical work, but with very
valued assistance & guidance from Bryan Schuster, Ron Richards, Bill Mann &
Mick Atholwood, all of whom are friends & I still call on their expertise
&/or ideas, if I have a problem. The most important aspect of my success was
to not only seek guidance from the best possible in the field, but
especially find out the reason behind their ideas and thoughts, so I knew
the basic principals, not just the solutions !
I am not a Qualified Engineer, but apart from doing all my own mechanical
assembly & fabrication over the years, I topped my class each year in my
mechanics course where I attended a Regional College in Tamworth, & came
somewhere between 3rd & 10th in the State in my final
year. Automatic trans. & auto electrical were my weaknesses. I was lucky
enough to spend many hours with Ron Richards & Bill Mann at Ron’s flow bench
when the change from bigger is best philosophy was found to be wrong,
bringing the first set of welded big block Pro Stock heads (Mullins) into
the country in 1975. I use much of what I learnt back then now, & still do
as much flow testing as I can, trying to give the best “package” product I
can. Remember, in this field, everything is a compromise & the secret is to
minimize the losses in these compromises
My other pride & joy is this quarter scale dragster powered by
a 70cc supercharged V8 producing 7.78hp @ 13200 on 9.4lb boost with 20%
nitromethane. Completely built & tuned by myself! Unfortunately I've had to sell
it to help with expansion of ARE.
